Privacy Policy

Avance ("we", "us", "our") provides an AI-powered personal training service delivered over messaging and the web. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the control you have over your data. We've tried to write it in plain language.

Your data is yours. You can view your information at any time inside the app, request a copy of it, and delete your account and all associated data completely, at any time — see Your rights and control.

Who this applies to

This policy covers people who create an Avance account and use our coaching service. Avance is intended for adults (18+). It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Information we collect

Account information — your name, phone number, and email address, provided when you sign up.
Training and health information — the information you share with your coach and that the service creates for you: your goals, training background, injuries and physical constraints, your program and planned/completed workouts, and the messages you exchange with your coach. Some of this is health-related and we treat it as sensitive.
Connected fitness data — if you choose to connect a third-party service (such as intervals.icu, or Garmin), we import the activity and wellness data you authorize (for example rides, runs, heart rate, and recovery metrics) so your coach can use it.
Technical information — basic logs needed to operate and secure the service.

How we use your information

To provide the service: build and adapt your training program, generate daily workouts, and coach you.
To communicate with you, including sending workouts and check-ins over WhatsApp/SMS and verification codes for signing in.
To operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

AI processing

Avance uses a large language model provided by Anthropic (the "Claude" API) to generate your coaching. To produce a response, the relevant parts of your training context and messages are sent to Anthropic to process on our behalf. Under Anthropic's API terms, this data is not used to train their models. We only send what's needed to coach you.

Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers that help us run Avance, and only as needed:

Anthropic — to generate coaching responses (see above).
Twilio — to deliver messages (WhatsApp/SMS) and sign-in codes.
intervals.icu, Garmin, and similar — only when you connect them, and only to import the fitness data you authorize.
Hosting and database providers — to store and run the service securely.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.

Your rights and control

Access — you can see your program, workouts, history, activities, and messages in the app at any time.
Export — you can request a copy of your data by emailing us; we'll provide it in a portable format.
Deletion — you can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account, or by emailing us. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, program, workouts, messages, connected-service credentials, and imported activity data from our systems. This cannot be undone.
Disconnect a service — you can disconnect any connected fitness service at any time in Settings.

We do not delete data you've stored in third-party services (for example, your own Garmin or intervals.icu account) — you control those directly.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active so we can provide the service. When you delete your account, we delete your associated data. We may retain limited records where required by law.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Not medical advice

Avance provides fitness coaching for general wellness. It is not a medical service and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified professional before starting or changing an exercise program, and stop and seek help if you experience pain or a medical emergency.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the updated version here and change the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may be communicated to you directly.
